Mounting Android phone on PC

I just got a generic smartphone with Android 14. It has 512 GB ROM. I can't mount it on my desktop computer. On previous Android phones, I was prompted for permission when I plugged it in. This one doesn't prompt me, and doesn't mount on the PC. Is there something I need to do in the settings? I have a lot of files to transfer over, and don't want think about doing it over the cloud.

Depends on the OS version you're running, but there should be an USB Mode setting that allows to either change for power only or data transfer. If this is a generic one, the ability to transfer data may not be supported, however. Also make sure the cable you're using is rated for data transfer and not just power (especially tricky with USB-C).
