google voice always defaults to English, WHY???

This is my issue:
- open Google messaging app
- click the microphone icon (to the left of the space bar)
- language indication above the circle with the red microphone displays "Default: English (US) - 1 additional"
- I click on the language indication bar
- language menu comes up titled "Current language settings" displaying English (US) and Japanese
- I click on Japanese
- the language indication above still displays "Default: English (US) - 1 additional"

If I speak japanese it tries to type it in english (but sometimes, rarely, it types it in english).

This problem jsut started a week ago. Prior to that I was using without issue for a couple years, with heavy use.
whats going on?
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AC.☺

Have you tried Clear Cache and Clear Data in the Messaging app?
