AC Question

Every night I turn flight mode on (and my wifi is also definitely off) and yet I still receive notifications from several apps that would require me to be connected to the internet. For example I get whatsapp messages and emails throughout the night (some but not all of them). I am thinking that my phone will somehow connect to the internet at some point throughout the night for a brief period but I don't know how/why and would like to stop it!

Cheers

Welcome to Android Central! After switching on Airplane Mode, it is still possible to turn wi-fi back on. Could you be inadvertently doing that at some point?

Are these emails and messages definitely sent to you at that time overnight? Could they be delayed notifications for some reason?

The same happening here on my Nexus 5. On airplane mode I still receive many notifications (news app, WhatsApp, E-mail..)
Did you find anything to solve this?
Thks in advance!

You could try the following to see if it has any impact:

Settings -> WiFi -> Three vertical dots in upper right -> Advanced -> disable Scanning always available.

This option is supposed to be there to scan for networks and location details even when the radio is off. But perhaps there is a glitch that it is allowing data through in airplane mode.

Thanks for the tip about turning off "WiFi Always". I have done this and anticipate I will not have any unwanted interruptions in my sleep tonight!
