Why does deleting a photo make my Photos app slow down and/or crash?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play Edition. I take a lot of pictures and videos, and my memory is constantly running out. I have the Google + photo backup turned on, so all of my pictures are backed up. I try to go into the Photos app to try to delete the photos from my device, but it takes forever. Even deleting a single photo takes much longer than it should. I can only delete one video at a time without the app crashing, and sometimes just one video will crash it. I can also only delete about five or so pictures at a time without the app crashing. I would love to somehow automatically delete everything more than a month old, but I haven't found a way to do that either. Any ideas?

Try gallery doctor it will remove your bad photos.
