Trying to access an S4 mini from a PC, can't take security code off as screen is broken?

The screen on my wife's S4 mini stopped working today, so before sending it off for repair She asked my if I could back up her photos and factory reset it so that no personal info was sent away with it. She uses a security code to access the phone so when I plug it into my PC it's all just blank files. Is there anyway to at least factory reset it or get access to the photos?
