[AC Question]

I was advised to re-install twitter on my mobile phone to clear some glitches. Every time I try to re-install it via twitter.com goes via google playstore which tells me I can't get a connection, even though internet is fine. I disabled / uninstalled google playstore but still can't access twitter download without it automatically going through google play and getting the same message. I hate google playstore and the way it tries to take over your phone rather than allowing you any control and would like to avoid it for ever more. Anyone able to help?

Welcome to Android Central! Then you must really dislike Apple, considering that you'd be stuck with the Apple Appstore, and that's it. Have you tried installing Amazon Appstore, or looking at other legitimate app sources like GetJar or SlideMe?

Are you having other problems accessing Google services, like Gmail or Calendar? Try going to Settings>Apps>All, select Google Play Store, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. Do the same for Download Manager. Now try again. If that doesn't help, go to Settings>Accounts, remove your Google account completely, then add it back.

I'd try what B. diddy said. Also I wouldn't say it's taking over your phone .. It is just the gateway for the platform to get apps. Just like the App Store for Apple or the market for a Windows.
