Welcome to Android Central! On the top browser bar, do you see the tab button (the square button with the number of open tabs)? If not, you probably have the Merge Tabs and Apps option on. Tap the menu button in Chrome, then Settings, then turn Merge Tabs and Apps off.

When Merge Tabs and Apps is on, each Chrome tab is shown separately in the Recent Apps button, along with all of your other recent apps. It's not a very helpful feature, in my opinion.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Jst got a new phone (Galaxy 6) & I could not figure out how to access my other open tabs on Chrome (a feature I utilize a LOT, so it was important to me to be able to do this).. Thankfully though, answers are now jst a Google search away.
This was 1st article that came up & looked informative.. And it was. Yay!

I seriously hate this! I am currently trying to learn french, so of course I browse french web pages quite a lot. But once in a while I encounter a word I don't understand, and then I want to switch to my google translate tab. Which can only be done by first scrolling upwards to make the browser bar appear. Which means that in order to look up a word, I actually have to scroll away from what I am reading in order to show the damn browser bar, and then scroll back down when I eventually looked up the words. Is this seriously your idea of the best way to do it? Because this is a pain in my ***.

Chrome includes a "tap to search" option to make things easier. Make sure you have it enabled in Chrome settings - privacy. Once done just long press on a word until it's highlighted, then tap on the share icon top right and select translate.

By the way, this is just a forum of Android fans not officially related to Google
