Can anyone advise how to sign out of Gmail email in Chrome. I inadvertently opened my Gmail email account in Chrome and now cannot log out of it.

I am signed in to Chrome and synced across devices. Looking at the web it seems to suggest that the only way is to sign out of Google completely or to desync Chrome. Neither of these is optimal.

If I do these will Gmail email still be accessible (without password) when I sign into Google again?

The only way for you to get what you want is to log out after your sessions. Otherwise, anyone with access to a browser on a device, laptop, phone, tablet, or PC will have access to your accounts. You didn't know this before but now that you do the option is yours, continue to live the way you have, carefree and foot loose, or take maters into your own hands and sign out. I would imagine on your phone or a tab that is privately yours, you have biometrics, PINs and passwords to protect you. Maybe you don't have to log out on those devices,. On shared laptops and PCs do or don't at your own risk. There really isn't two ways about it, this is how it is.

Good luck and best wishes.
