Any way to reclaim space from the Google Search box?

AC Question

So, there is this google search box on the home screen.

In the home screen settings I can disable it, but now I have a useless piece of screen real estate that could easily accommodate another row of icons.

Is there anyway to reclaim that space?

You should be able to press and hold on the search bar until the option to remove it is visible, then you just slide the icon up to the top of the page to the little trash can.

Um yeah...so...

First, it's not a widget.
Second, it's already gone. Now I want my screen real-estate back. Does anyone know if it can be done.

Forgot to mention, it's a Droid Turbo recently upgraded to Lollipop
