Can Is it safe to Disable Google Hangouts on my Nexus 5

I don't use Google HANGOUTS. When I tried to disable it, I got a pop-up window telling me "If I disable a built-in app, other apps might misbehave. My data will also be deleted. Since I have never used HANGOUTS, I was wondering what I can expect if I do delete HANGOUTS. Has anyone had any experience deleting HANGOUTS or any other factory installed app, where the same message appears? Thanks..... Jeff, Toronto Canada.

Hello. Welcome to Android Central.

Yes you can disable most stock apps that have icons.

I had plenty disabled on my previous Samsung (no Hangouts on Samsung). On my current Moto G I had let everything running, until I had some heating and battery issues.

As it happens, I was getting pop ups about Hangouts failing, but thanks to your post I saw I had not turned off notifications while disabled. I hope that cures it.

You won't have any other issues, afaik.

It's alright to disable them or anything app you don't actually use. That's just a warning in case you actually use said app

Some apps actually are used by other apps (instead of wasting space duplicating a task, one app will call the task in another app), but Hangouts isn't one that I've had any problem with. I always disable it because I don't use it.

You can disable Google services but then everything google related will quit work and you will constantly get error messages stating to enable google services.

Goes for several other apps.
