How can I sync contacts with GMail?

Don't want to sync contacts with gMail

Previously I had a Samsung phone. Now, with my new Nexus 6, if I add a new contact, it seems that I have to sync it with my gmail account. I don't want to sync it with my gmail account. Is there a way to add new contacts to my phone without them syncing to my gmail account?

Welcome to the forums!

You can turn off the Contact sync in your Google account, but.. If you sync the contacts, then your contacts are always backed up, no matter what Android device you use.
