Help understanding firmware update for note

If i want to get lollipop on my note 3 should I download the correct firmware from samsung onto my pc first?, and then what?

Have you tried doing the OTA update through the settings app on your phone? It's actually much easier that way.

I've since realised that firmware is the same as your android version. Ive tried updating and I'm up to date but I can't get lollipop on my note 3.
i don't think samsung has released a version for the note 3 yet.

but if it's so easy to just update from your phone, why are these firmwares online.

I had the Note 3 before switching to the Galaxy S6 and I had Lollipop on it. Perhaps your carrier hasn't released it yet? Because Lollipop for the Note 3 was released before the Galaxy S6 came out, I think if I remember correctly I got the update on my phone through my carrier about 6 months after Lollipop was released so somewhere around March. If your Note 3 is unlocked it should be available to download. You can search for it online and see if it has been released for your model already.
