Sounds not working (alarm, notifications, etc). Need to uninstall recent updates?

My alarm clock and timer go off visually, but no sound. Phone doesn't ring and text notifications don't sound, either.

Here's what I did: Volume button up. Cleared data and cache. Vibrations and default notification sounds set and volumes up at least a little for media, Ringtone, Notifications, and System. In Blocking Mode, "Turn off alarm and timer" unchecked. Samsung Galaxy S4.

From reading around the various forums, I wonder if a recent update to one of the other apps has caused the sounds to stop working. If you agree, is there a way to find out which apps were recently updated and how to uninstall them? If there is, would you please provide detailed steps on how to do so?
