Welcome to Android Central! High priority? Do you mean why it has such a large market share? That would probably require a dissertation that would be several pages long. A lot of it has to do with the fact that Google doesn't limit Android to only one manufacturer--there are obviously multiple major brands out there, and many more smaller manufacturers, that make hundreds of different models. This allows Android devices to span a much wider price range, from very cheap entry-level phones to top-of-the-line premium phones. If you make an OS available and desirable to a wide variety of people, then you're more likely to gain more market share.
