assigned ringtones return to default at power off

[AC Question]

I have an xperia E4 less than a year old, everytime I power off on start up the assigned ringtones for contacts have reverted to default setting and I have to set them again.
Two questions
firstly, anyone know why this happens or how I can avoid this happening again
and secondly, do I ever need to actually switch the phone off? will it damage it being on constantly?

You could try moving those files to the internal storage. It's possible that the SD card is starting to fail.

Thanks for registering and welcome as a new member! I don't have that specific phone with me so I can't give you detailed instructions of how to move those files. There should be an option under your settings - storage. Take a look there. Also, take a look at this Sony support page to understand those settings.

Another possibility could be using a file explorer from the Play Store, but first let me check in any Ambassador knows this phone better than I do

Welcome to the forums!

First: as for leaving the phone on, it's not going to hurt it. If you notice performance issues, a reboot is usually the first thing to try.

Second: I agree with Javier, in that the ringtones might be better left on the internal storage. When you do a power cycle, the card is most likely unmounted from the device. When the phone is turned back on, the OS might see the missing data before seeing the card and automatically shift to a default tone.

Where did you get those ringtones from? Some app like Zedge? Maybe the best thing to do could be downloading them again and keeping them in the internal storage this time.
