Is there an issue with my Galaxy S4, or is this how they work?

AC Question

I bought a refurbished and unlocked Galaxy gt-i9505 to put my contract sim into as my iPhone 6 is damaged and I can't repair without spending £££. I had already anticipated the difference in sim card sizes and so I got an adapter from the EE store that I can snap my nano-sim into, to make it fit a micro-sim reader, like the one in the S4.

Here's the issue, I put my nano sim into the S4 using the adapter and the phone simply says "No SIM inserted". I first thought it might be software related so I did the relevant updates, then after no success, I factory restored the phone with no result still. I found the micro-sim I used before I had to upgrade to a nano-sim. This *WAS* also registered on the EE network and upon booting my phone with it in, it read the sim. Shortly after, it prompted me to reboot the phone, so I did and then once again there was a "No SIM inserted" message. I just assumed it gave me this message because the sim card tried activating then just killed itself as there was nothing for it register with, as it's a 2 year old sim. I'm heading to the store tomorrow to see if I can get a micro-sim and activate my number on it, but I want to know if this is normal behaviour from my phone or if there's a deeper issue? I'm tired of going round in circles.

Any help would be great, thanks.

It is not uncommon for the no sim card inserted message to crop up on the S4. If the device is refurbished perhaps its the way you cut the sim and nothing more sinister
