Why no FB messenger notifications from non facebook users who do use messenger

Ok so ill try to be clear. Im the family member thats always trying to get everyone unified on messaging. Decided in order to get those few straglers who would NEVER GET WHATSAPP {iphone users are stuborn} onboard we would all use facebook messenger most everyone already had it anyway. There was a few that didnt have facebook pages but I said "ohh dont worry you can get the messaging app without a facebook page" which is true of course. Problem is when the people without facebook pages send messages I dont get notifications? works perfect for the people who do have facebook pages so it has something to do with the fact that they dont have facebook page. Any ideas? {these people are no going to create a facebook page}. Anyone else have this problem? Im on marshmallow with my motox PE but all other facebook using family members experience the same thing.

For anyone who may be having this problem I think the way I solved it was this. Sign into main Facebook page on phones browser and turn push notifications on from there.
