Samsung s7 contact has multiple phone numbers. How do you delete a phone number?

I have a contact with 4 phone numbers. She no longer has 3 of those numbers. When you touch "edit" only the default number shows.

I have even tried designating one of the bad numbers as default, but when I then go to "edit" the correct phone number appears, not the one I just designated as default that I want to delete.

Write down the number you want to keep, delete contact totally from your phone and add them again as a new contact... That may be the easiest way...

Chances are that the 3 numbers that are showing up but not in the actual Contact entry are from the history. If you're searching in the Phone app (and not the Contact app), you could probably get rid of those numbers by clearing the Call History.
