AC Question

Galaxy S5 states micro SD card corrupted, laptop says its fine...Wha...??

My Galaxy S5 (Verizon) is haunted. One day it recognizes/uses my micro sd card fine, the next day it states it is corrupted. I backed up my photos & junk during one of the times it was working, but what do I do now? My first reaction is to just buy another SD card (so I can take LOADS of stupid fotos!) but what worries me is that it also stated another (perfectly fine) sd card was corrupted...so obviously its the phone, not the cards. ?? Any advice greatly appreciated! (Both cards are Samsung 32g EVO whatever that means) THANKS!

Do a factory reset on the device and see if it reads properly after that. If it's not corrected by doing that, then you may have a hardware issue on your hands in which case you will need to seek out a replacement device from Verizon if possible.

Welcome to Android Central! The SD card could be corrupt, defective, or counterfeit. Install SD Insight to see if the card is genuine or counterfeit. Counterfeit cards are programmed to report more storage than they actually have, and if you try saving more than the card can actually hold, then files can start getting corrupt.

If it's a valid card, then go to Settings>Storage, Unmount the card, remove it, and insert it into your computer. Can the computer read these files? Backup as much as you can right now, then run chkdsk to look for bad sectors: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html.
