AC Question

I have a Nextbook Android version 5. When I play a video I can hear anything.

I needed to establish some things to try and get my head around how best to advise you. Does the headphone jack work, do you get system sounds and has the device worked OK in the past? (Last question)

Pugs1957 - Don't know about headphone jacks but I do get notification sound such as when I put a reminder on my calendar but can't get video sound like when my family puts a video on fb and no that kind of sound has never worked and the settings say its on and the volumn is up as far as it will go

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Sound, and make sure the Media Volume is turned up. Notification and Alarm volumes are separate from Media, so it's possible to hear notifications but not get any media sound.

Thanks B Diddy but I guess I wasn't clear enough but all three volumns. alarm, media and notifications are up as high they will go. Do I need to download some kind of app to get sound?

Is this only on Facebook, or also other apps like YouTube, or your video player app playing locally saved videos? On Facebook, if you have the auto-play video option turned on, the video will initially play without sound. I think you have to tap the video to make it fullscreen, after which the sound will play.

No it's not only fb. No sound on anything - news videos also. Haven't used video player app. Just went into fb turned off auto-play video. found a video made it full screen and still no sound.

Try booting into Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all 3rd party apps. On most Android devices, while powered on, press and hold Power until the Power Off menu appears. Press and hold the Power Off selection until the Safe Mode prompt appears. Tap OK.

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the problem. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem disappears. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then it's more likely to be a hardware or firmware problem.

Thanks B. Diddy. I found the problem. I have a key on my keyboard for sound. Actually there are 3. Play with those for a while and got my sound back. Sorry for the inconvience but glad to know about how to get to Safe Mode. Sorry again and thanks again.
