Synchronising

I have a phone and a tablet, both are Sony Xperia. At the moment both are synchronised together and everything on both is the same.
However, I want to separate them and have each one independent of the other.
Both units share the same gmail and Google address so if I delete that address I lose all my data on both units.
How do i go about separating them so each is independent of the other?
Thanks

I'm not sure if there's a good way to do that and still maintain the same Google account on both. Any reason why you don't want them synced to the same account?

Thanks B. Diddy,

I forgot to mention that the tablet would remain on the original account and the phone would be changed to a new account. Would I lose my data on the tablet if I delete the account on the phone.

It seems that you lose the data if you delete an account, but would it affect the tablet if the phone's account is deleted as they are synchronised together at the moment?

No, you won't lose the data on the tablet if you delete the account from the phone. The device is syncing with your Google account in the cloud, not on another device. So as long as you don't delete your Google account from the cloud, it'll be fine.

Thanks again B Diddy, how is it that ALL the data on my phone and tablet are identical when they both shared the same Google account??

Because they are using the same account, hence they have the same data. Deleting the account on the phone will not affect the tablet because it's not deleting any data. It's just unlinking the phone from the account
