Moto Display/Approach has stopped working

It was working just fine up till a few days ago. I've uninstalled all recently installed apps, rebooted the phone, cleared all cache, booted into safe mode and the interesting thing is it does (kind of) work then. When I hover my hand around or above the phone, it says Safe Mode at the bottom left of the screen (every time), which I reckon means the sensor/hardware is fine. I don't have the options Adaptive or Ambient Display so that couldn't have caused it to stop working. Oh and it does randomly work for a split moment on certain tries. Strange.

Being in Safe mode is similar to Windows Safe mode ie a minimalist system and only access to the original apps. Perhaps an app you have installed is causing an issue? But, you should read http://forums.androidcentral.com/mo...nybody-moto-actions-not-working-approach.html
