I need to mute notifications but turn I also need loud calendar event sound

Hi! I have a Nexus 5, and I need to my notifications (gmail, facebook messenger, etc.) to still "pop" up, but I need them to be silent (I am in class). However, I also need my calendar events to ring, so I wake up for them. I tried downloading the "Calendar Event Reminder", but if I turn off notification sounds, then the ringer function doesn't work. Does anyone know a way to make calendar events make an audible sound without anything else making a sound? I have been googling for 4 hours trying to solve this problem.

Notification sound is either on or off. You can turn Gmail, Facebook, Messaging, etc., notifications off - one by one - but you can't turn notification sound off and still have the calendar notification sound. (To make a loud notification, use Audacity to increase the level in the sound file (copy it to the PC, increase the level, copy that file back to the phone). But you still have to choose notification sound on - or turn off the sound in all the other apps.

The Do Not Disturb feature can block all notifications and you can create an exception
