How can I recover the data on my microSD card if it can only work on my phone?

AC Question

My Droid Turbo 2 had a unrelated battery defect that made me file a warranty claim, and I received a new phone of the same model. When I switched over the microSD card, the new phone wouldn't use it unless it formatted it, and said it was because it was already formatted for my original phone. I unmounted it and tried to copy and paste the card onto my laptop, but my laptop also said the card was unusable to it unless it formatted it. Is there a way to transfer the 8.5 gigs from the microSD card to a back while its in the phone?

Most likely you are out of luck. The whole purpose of the encryption/security is to prevent what you are trying to do since if you can do it then anyone can do it, thus no security.

Unfortunately, you needed to do all the file copying before you sent the phone away for fixing.

Since you still have the old phone, if it is usable, just put the card back into that old phone and transfer the files to your computer.
After you verify the transfer was successful, put the card into the new phone and format it for that phone, then transfer the files from the computer to the new phone.

Optionally, if you leave the card as formatted for "external storage, unencrypted" you can easily transfer the card between any devices and computers. But that has no security and works only for pictures, movies, and documents, etc.

That's the thing, it is usable, however it won't work on my computer. My computer wants to format it as well before it opens it, so I can't do that. It only works on the defective but mostly functional phone I believe.
