AC Question

I have an LG G5 and recently updated to Android 7.0 (Nougat). Whenever I open a photo sent to me in the stock messenger app it saves it in my gallery in a .temp file. How do I stop this from happening?

The image needs to be stored somewhere before you can see it.
Your SMS app may or may not give you the option to choose where.

"Gallery" is not a location, it is an app. What folder are these .temp files actually getting stored in?

They are stored in the Gallery App in a folder called .temp The details for the image says the path is /storage/emulated/0/LG_apps/Advanced/.temp/Message_1488754642545.jpg I went to the file manager and tried to find this folder, but I could not find it. It kept saying that there was no files in the folder. If I delete an image in the folder then it deletes it in the message and I do not want that. There was no folder in the gallery of images I had downloaded before updating to Android 7.0.

Thanks for the extra info.

That ".temp" folder is a place where your LG(?) app is storing temporary files. Your gallery app should not be looking there for anything.

The reason your file browser app is not seeing the folder is that it is marked as "hidden". In the settings for the file browser app, there should be an option to "show hidden files and folders".

One way to get your gallery app to stop looking at that ".temp" folder would be to create a file named ".nomedia" in the ".temp" folder. How easy it will be for you to do this I cannot say.

I did some tests and it seems to only save images shared from other LG G5 phone users, or those that use the Advanced Messaging feature that shares larger files, get read receipts and see when someone is replying. I did try reacting a file named ".nomedia" however it will not allow you to save that as a name without putting something in front of the dot. I saved a file as 1.nomedia and it still would save the images. I then turned the Advanced Messaging off and it stopped saving the images in the .temp folder. I deleted the .temp folder and all the images in my messaging app disappeared. This problem only started with I updated to Android 7.0.

Iam getting same thing its getting annoying when i send pictures it gets saved to the temp folder when i already have the pic saved in another and i delete it dont need it 2 times but the message it disappears. Idk how to fix it looked all over in message settings i cant see anything and yes since the update its retarded
