How do I restore Google Search to home key after Android 7 update?

Android 7.0 dropped on my Samsung S7 today, and it has changed my home key to "google assistant." So far, I am only able to turn it off or on, meaning the button is either voice-only or does literally nothing (off).

How do I get a Google TEXT BASED SEARCH to launch from my home key again? I don't want to talk to my stupid phone out loud every stupid time I want to look up every stupid thing. I hate using voice search.

Is there a way to get back to a text-base home-key launcher?

Welcome to Android Central! When Google Assistant is open, tap Menu>Settings, then toggle the Google Assistant switch off. Is that what you already tried? Does the Google Now screen now appear when you long-press the Home button?
