Can I temporarily disable the system update?

I need to be on wifi to update my android. I also need to be on wifi to buy it. I cant update my phone because the provider wont let anything through other than their own site to buy the wifi. My phone will not stop showing the updating in progress window, so I cant buy the wifi. I need help. This is annoying

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone, and which carrier? What do you mean by buying wi-fi? Wi-fi is through either your home wi-fi network (connected to the web using a broadband service you subscribe to), or wi-fi networks outside of your house (like in your local library or coffeehouse). Are you talking about trying to buy more airtime from your wireless provider?
