How do I stop a portable phone charger from switching off?

Hi. I have a strip of LED lights that have an inline rocker switch. Connected to a portable phone charger the switch will turn on the light as long as the LEDs are showing on the battery ie it is switched on. After a brief period it switches off and the only way to turn on the LED strip is to first press the button on the charger. Obviously I can reconnect the USB but pulling this in and out each time would be ridiculous.
The reason this is important is that i want to set the LEDs in a box and want to use the rocker switch to turn them on and not to first switch on the battery.

I believe you'll need to maintain a load on the battery in order to keep it "on". Without a load, it shuts off to prevent draining itself.
