AC Question

I have gone into my contacts, details, and then edit, and if an address shows up at all (most of the time it doesn't) I try and change it and it always just adds it. I can't delete anything. I have changed (at the top part) from Google to Phone to Messenger to Cloud (some have multiple labels of the same thing, but to no avail! It's frustrating because if I just add it, I have no way of remembering which phone number or address is the current one. I hate this phone.

Welcome to Android Central! How are you trying to change the address? Do you tap the address field, edit what's there, then tap the Save button at the top?

Re: Yes. I edit and hit save

I've had so many problems with the Galaxy S7. Within 10 days of buying it, it had to be replaced. I constantly combines my contact information from several contacts and then saves them as "unknown" contacts. This happens every time I open a contact. Verizon doesn't know how to help. I have hundreds of "unknown" combination contacts. It also loses contacts mysteriously. And then there is the problem on not being able to edit my contacts. Also, I lose photos I've taken. I gray bar appears on some of the photos and nothing can be done at that point but delete them. I really HATE this phone. Piece of garbage.

Are the contacts being saved to your Google account, or to your Samsung account, or the local Phone account? To simplify things, only save contacts to the Google account and see if the problem persists.

I'm still having the problem of unrelated contacts combining with each other and creating a new contact called "Unknown" under "U" in my contacts list. If I delete them (there are now THOUSANDS of them) it deletes each bit of information from my contacts and I have to re-add it. My contacts are being compromised every day. I have unlinked these unknown contacts (it took days because like I said, there are thousands of them) only to have them revert back to the unknown mixed contacts the next day or two. I don't know what's causing it. This problem is all over the internet btw, yet no one seems to have a solution. All we can tell is it's every kind of Android phone with every carrier. The only thing we all have in common is that we have some kind of Android phone. So the problem is with Android, who doesn't seem interested in solving or fixing the problem. My concern is, if I just get a new phone and manually add my contacts, the same thing could happen if it's coming from an app that I've downloaded. I'm very careful about where I get my apps. But some of my apps have saved info that I don't want to lose so I would prefer copying them on to my new phone. I don't mind manually adding my contacts to a new phone if I have to. I would appreciate any help you could give. And so would many others who are having this problem.

I have an S7 since launch. This happened when I first got the phone. It has to do with all of your contacts, being in multiple places, including your carrier and Google cloud, FB, whatsapp, and whatever you gave permission to access your contacts on various apps, and synching not taking all this into account, producing your problem.
