My Samsung S8 will not let me use voice command while driving through Android Auto.

I got the new S8 last weekend, and now Android Auto will not let me do anything while I am driving. When I push the mircophone, she says to try again when at a safe stop or something like that. I am super bummbed, voice text was my favorite part! And I could instantly get the forecast, see how long it will take me to reach my destination without having to use navigation, etc. Please tell me this is fixable, lol!
