Is rooting and jailbreaking the same thing? And which one unlocks sim to be able to use any carrier?

I have a sprint galaxy 6s and would like it to be unlocked so I can use phone with different carrier. Is that possible by jailbreaking or rooting?

Yes, rooting and jailbreaking are essentially synonymous but they typically will not allow you to unlock the device to use with another carrier.

You would need to work with Sprint to get the device unlocked. They should be able to supply the info needed as long as the device meets the requirements.
