When I try to reinstall it I get a message that say the currengt weather widget must be removed before a new one may be installed. The problem is I am unable to see the current widget on my home screen.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? What happens if you long-press the empty space where the widget was before?

I'm sorry. It is an S7. If I long press the space where the widget was before, the screen goes into the mode where you can put a new widget in. But when I try to put one in I get the error message as indicated before.

Ok, and you've checked all other homescreens as well, right? Have you rebooted the phone?

You could try wiping the cache partition: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-24999
