My phone screen is cracked and won't turn on. What's the problem with it?

I recently dropped my HTC Desire 820 G+ flat on the ground. The view got disturbed and then turned off. Now it doesn't turn on. There are several cracks on the screen. When I plug in the charger, the charging LED light doesn't flash like it usually does. Does a cracked scren prevent a phone from turning on? Is the problem only a cracked screen or somethong else aswell? Because I can replace the screen but I want to know if its just the screen that causes the problem.

You most likely broke something else inside the phone.
The only way to know is to take the phone to a repair shop.
