After my Nexus 4 died I upgraded to the Galaxy S7. I loved the phone at first but over the last months, after upgrading to Nougat 7.0 I am having problems with mobile data usage. Please don't laugh but I only have a 100mb per month data plan to simply check my emails. I have almost all my app set to "do not allow background data" but for some reason my Google Play Store app will still suck background data. I have the app auto-update setting set to "do not auto-update apps" but last month the app used 24mb of background data in the span of only a few minutes.
After seeing that I searched a few forums and learn that Nougat will do OTA self updated here and there with no way for the user to stop it. So I downloaded the app "noRoot firewall" I love the app as every time a data connection is requested I get to set the app to allow or deny.
However I have noticed that since I have install the firewall my Gmail doesn't auto sync.
So I kinda have 2 questions: 1. how do I block Google Play Store from using any mobile data? 2. If it's impossible to block Google Play Store what service needs to be allowed on the firewall to have my Gmail auto sync?
Thanks in advance for the help.
