Let's say to my SD Card. Will show an apk so I can install it in my new phone? Or needs to be thru the File Manager?

Not sure what you are asking here.

If an app lets itself be moved to the SD card, any software update for that app will automatically move all of the parts back to the internal storage. After running the new APK, you will need to move the app to the SD card again.

Use the SD card for your media files; leave the apps on the internal storage where they want to be.

For the apps that use lots of data space, check their settings. Many of the map apps and GPS apps and camera apps will let you store their data on the SD card.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? How are you backing up? Backup apps typically will back up the app data, but not the app itself, since you can always reinstall the app from the Play Store or some other source.
