Move SIM Card to another phone

I am getting a new phone soon and I have a question. If I move my SIM card from my current phone to the new one I know that the contacts will be transferred. What else will be transferred? What about photos and text messages? I really need to transfer my messenger, viber, Instagram messages to my new phone. If I download those apps from google play and then login to them will the messages be still there?

Contacts don't necessarily get transferred, since they often don't get saved to the SIM card these days. Check on your old phone now to see if your contacts are in fact saved to the SIM. SMS messages might be saved to the SIM, but this isn't common. Remember, the SIM card has pretty minimal storage (maybe up to 256 KB -- that's kilobytes, not megabytes) -- it can usually only hold up to about 250 contacts. The only thing that will reliably get transferred is your phone number and your ability to make calls through your carrier. But remember, this will only work if the new phone supports your carrier's network bands.

SMS text messages typically do not get transferred over to the new phone, so use an app like SMS Backup & Restore. I'm not sure about Viber and Instagram -- check with their support to see if messages are synced to their cloud.

For photos, I strongly recommend taking advantage of Google Photos auto-backup. This will sync your photos to your Google Photos in the cloud, making them easily accessible from any device you're logged into: https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6193313?co=GENIE.Platform=Android&hl=en

Thanks for your reply. My contacts are saved to the SIM, I checked that, so they will be transferred and we are ok with that. My photos are also synced and backed up. If I download, lets say, Messenger it will ask me to login in to my facebook account. When I log in, the chats and conversations will they be there like the old phone? I would prefer to avoid the SMS restore app. Thanks again.

I'm not entirely sure about Facebook Messenger. Chats through Facebook should be restored, but if you use FB Messenger as your default SMS app, my suspicion is that those messages won't get carried over.
