Is there a way to close the navugation bar at the bottom of my s8?

I recently got a S8 after breaking my old note 3, I'm getting used to the smaller screen but one thing that bugs me is when I search something I almost always hit the white navigation bar at the bottom which closes the keyboard and erases my search. Is there a way to close it while the keyboard is up?
