Verizon Note 5. All updates. Is there a method, through Android OS itself, to assign various notifications different tones (for example so as to differentiate an email from a news item)? While I see the OS allows one to choose which apps can give notifications, it doesn't seem to permit you to differentiate between them so as to assign different notification sounds/tones as well. Can u please advise if I'm missing something?

The phone has one generic notification sound. You pick this from the phone's settings app.

Some apps that create notifications will let you pick the sound for that app, Twitter for example.
Some apps do not give you that option, Instagram for example.

There are third-party apps that will let you assign individual sounds to each app, but I have not tried any.
    As a random example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....com.notificon
