Can the new Pixel 2 XL be used as a dual sim phone?

Since the new Pixel 2 has a sim slot and is an e-sim phone does this mean it can be used like/as a dual sim phone? Can you switch between e-sim and sim via app, say between Fi on the e-sim and another provider on the sim?

Welcome to Android Central! This was discussed in the most recent AC podcast, and they just don't know yet. Jerry and the crew said that one of the first things they'd try is to see if the eSIM can work at the same time as the removable SIM, or if it gets deactivated once a removable SIM is inserted.
