Android Central Question

I have a oneplus 3 and have my car set up as a trusted bluetooth device - my understanding is that when connected to my car my phone should unlock - however unless i physically unlock the phone it remains on the lock screen.

I am using the trigger app and have set it to launch google home when i connect to the car however because the phone stays on the lock screen it doesnt work as i want it too.

To be clear i want to connect to the car bluetooth > the phone then automatically unlocks itself and google home is open - this feels like it should be simple but im not getting the desired result!

Please help!

Welcome to Android Central! Just to be sure -- are you certain the phone is connecting to your car stereo immediately? If the phone is connected to some other Bluetooth device (like headphones) when you get into the car, it might not connect to the car stereo (until you turn off the headphones). This would prevent the phone from recognizing the car as a Trusted Device.

If it still doesn't unlock, you could always use Tasker with Secure Settings to unlock the screen (keyguard off, clear password and whatever else you want, with the Exit being to undo all the changes [so it reverts when you leave the car].)
