Android Central Question

Hi,

I'm having difficulty opening a pdf file in Oreo. How can I tell what my default viewer is? In settings, if I go to Drive, it says I have set this as the default for some actions, but nowhere does it say this is my default pdf viewer. I am using the Yahoo mail app and certain pdf files open fine, but a few seem to be mapped to my password app for some reason, which launches when I attempt to view them. It's a new phone and I hadn't opened up Drive before opening up the failed pdfs, but I was thinking it added the mapping after I opened the app for the first time? I don't see the password app in the opening links settings so i can't attempt to clear it.

There's no default pdf viewer in Android. There's no pdf viewer at all in Android. You have to install one. I find that Foxit MobilePDF is about the best. Default App Manager will help you to set and unset default apps for various things - including pdf files. (But you have to have the pdf reader app installed first.)

Thank you. I downloaded the Google PDF Viewer, but still no luck. I think the filename is confusing the OS. It is in the form of statement.12345.pdf. All of my other pdf files (file.pdf) can open without a problem. I saved the file and then went in to the Downloads app and selected the file. It displayed a message Unable to preview file. OPEN WITH. I clicked on that, but still get my password app launched. I would hope they could handle a filename with more than one period/dot in it.

Even the Downloads app won't save the file when I attempt to rename it as just statement.pdf. Anything x.pdf opens fine. I even went into my password app in settings and it has no defaults set.
