Android Central Question

Ok so I downloaded Ave Maria from mediafire. I have the file downloaded to downloads folder, I mean that's fine I guess. I copied the file to my music folder so that my player can detect it. Thinking I'm fine I deleted the original downloaded file. I then go and try to have a listen to Ave Maria and I can't find it anywhere in my player. Restart it nothing happens. So I go into "File Manager" and see whether I can launch it from there but I couldn't find it. Then I realised my number of songs has changed from 73 to 72 after I deleted the file in my downloads folder, so even if I'm in a different directory it deletes the file. Please help.

I don't know how you copied the file, but I'm fairly certain that you're either creatig a shortcut (although the shortcut would remain after deleting the file, it just wouldn't play) or you're dragging the file from one folder to another on the same storage device which isn't making a copy, it's moving the file.

Post the steps you take in "copying" the file (you'll have to join Android Central to put another post in this thread) and I'll tell you how to change what you're doing to avoid the problem.

I go to the downloads folder, I then hold the file I want to copy and then once it is shown as selected I press on the 3 Dot Icon in the top left hand corner and there I press copy. It then asks me to chose destination, so I hit the back key on my phone, go to the music folder and pressed the X on the Choose destination bar. The file is there now but anything I do to one of the files the same happens to the other, I rename it, both get renamed, I delete one both go down etc.

Btw I apologise for the long wait but this is pissing me off beyond belief.

You should see a Paste choice - X may be making a shortcut. Try the menu when you get to the destination and look for Paste there too.

Deleting a copy won't delete the other copy. Deleting a file will, in some cases, delete the shortcut.
