Wierdest thing ever? Help!

My gf and I went to sleep last night and when we woke up our phones were shut off and factory reset.

Does anyone have any idea how this can happen?

The night before when I went to sleep I plugged my phone in to charge like I usually do and when I woke up my phone was shut down.

To let you know, both our phones are androids, mine a Motorola and hers an Asus.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Welcome to Android Central! When you powered the phones on, you saw the Setup Wizard, and all data was wiped? Spontaneous factory resets are pretty rare, and usually mean a catastrophic glitch in the firmware. For it to happen on two different phones at the same time would be a massive coincidence, though -- I would then wonder if both of you had the same app installed that might have been malicious, leading to this behavior. Did either of you have any apps installed from outside the Play Store?
