Android Central Question

Hi there - I just upgraded to Android 8.0.0 on my Samsung S8 and I don't know how to make badges/dots persistent (i.e. NOT disappear) even after I clear the notification drawer. For example if I receive two new e-mails I will get both the notification and the badge with the number 2 on the corner of the app icon, but once I clear the notification the badge goes as well. Am I now stuck with this functionality or is there a way to make it work the way it was working before the upgrade? Thank you in advance.

Same problem here, and I don't like it! It appears to be the default now for badge icons :(
Also found I cannot customize the LED notification light and the vibration duration any more. Ugh!

It seems Samsung may have decided not to reinvent the wheel on Oreo and stuck with the notification badge system Google provided with Oreo. That system is tied to the notification shade.

There is more discussion of notification dots in our S8 and S9 forum sections, some MAY have gotten numbers to appear but I can't follow that far as I don't have a Samsung device running Oreo (until they update the Tab S3). You will need to join as a member to post in those sections, much as @JSMayhem did to reply here (welcome!)
