Is it updating? If it is, let it finish. But if it's been 6 hours, you probably turned it off while it was updating (a large part of the "update" process is downloading the update file, then checking the phone to make sure it can be updated). So what happened depends on which phone it is.

If it's an older phone, you've turned it into a paper weight, and you might be able to flash the firmware - but you've lost all your changes to the original phone. If it's a newer phone, that holds 2 versions of the firmware and only updates one (then updates the other one at the next update), how you recover depends on the phone.
