How to make newest text priority

When I am notified of a new text. I click on the icon and it will take me to my last conversation, instead of my newest text. Because my settings show me the text briefly before I open my messages on the header, I am usually responding only to fill d out I am talking to the wrong person. I hope this makes sense.

Sounds like you're just closing the Message app in whatever conversation you're in. If you'll hit the arrow in the top left corner before you close out the app, it'll open to the home page of the message app the next time you open the message app. Or hit the multi-app view and close everything.
