Android Central Question

Newbie question here, sorry if it's basic!
My Galaxy tablet keeps prompting me that it is running out of memory. If I simply install an SD card in accordance with the instructions, will that automatically increase the memory - or will I have to do anything else?

An SD card gives you more storage space.

The idea is to then use your favorite file browser app to copy files to the SD card then delete the originals from the internal storage. The files you want to transfer are your music, photos, videos, and documents.

Some apps (camera, maps, GPS navigation, games) will let you move their data files to the SD card, but many apps will not.

Apps still get installed on the internal storage.

Thanks, ManiacJoe. That's annoying, I had hoped that stuff would automatically be put on the card if internal storage was becoming full.

Here is where I prove just what a newbie I am! Please what do you mean by "your favorite file browser app"? Whatever it is, please can you recommend one?

Welcome to Android Central! This is why I always recommend getting a device with as much internal storage that you can afford. There are Android devices that can format SD cards as Internal Storage (called Adoptable Storage), but this is somewhat notorious for glitchiness, depending on the manufacturer. Samsung doesn't support Adoptable Storage.

I like Total Commander, especially because it's free and ad-free.
