And there you go. Lol no clue on what I'm doing today. So back to the? I put the card in and it basically said it all... Internal or portable. Lol. Well that's easy always internal for me. Format it and I'm on my way. That card is a 2019 SanDisk Image mate class 10 A1 micro SD card; OH and that's it. But it works perfectly for me and video. .... So and here we go.... I went out and bought a new Image mate Pro 128 g. V30 A2 U3. and the list goes on and on ilabout how great this card should of been. Nope not even close to the other one that by today's standard is a million years old. Yeah this cardod only formats in portable and well.... Which for me is not even worthy anything to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against having a pile of photos. Lol but I don't. I love having space for apps and functional stuff and some pictures and stuff. Now that card went in a cheap TCL tab 8 tablet with, and there it is again only 3 gigs of RAM. But yes I don't know why this card will not work for internal app storage and other stuff. And it's supposed to be the better card ♦️. Anyway, anyone have a clue on that. Sorry about that long winded post to finally get to the? Question ❓. I also got 3 NCY Elite 64 gig cards also that are doing the same thing . You know really nice cards but again I'm finding out other wise. I mean it is pretty straightforward to format, but if I don't have a choice to go with internal, I rather not bother. So I'm amazed at the oldest and cheapest card was and still is the best one. So any advice?. Thank you for your help and replies.

Many devices don't support Adoptable Storage, which means they can only use SD cards as Portable Storage. Are you saying that you were able to format the old card as Internal Storage, but not the new one on the same device? Or are you trying to use this new card on a different device?

Keep in mind that counterfeit cards are rampant, especially from random online sellers. You can test it as described here: How to Spot a Fake MicroSD Card and Avoid Being Scammed.

Oh yeah I definitely agree with you about the fakes out there. I don't know how how appropriate it is to start rattling off websites that condone such behavior; but I could. Anyway you are right, I'm not trying to format my new card in my old Pie 9 phone; but in the bum 2024 TCL tab 8 tablet. You know, the one that I complained about that has 3 gigs of RAM in it. Question ❓, I have other cards that are technically, should be better than the existing card in my Pie 9 phone. It would be interesting to see. The new SD card that is in the TCL tablet 8 ; I moved everything out from the existing card and I was going to try reformatting it but I can tell that it's not going to work. No choice but portable. So I was thinking 🤔 of trying to put one of the other new cards in the other phone and see if it gives me the choice. You know what I said right from the beginning of when I got here back in, I don't know when not that long ago like April, that I was going to learn a thing or two just by hanging out here. And I know that I'm not here that often but I really enjoy it when I am. So many smart people here, a lot smarter than me. Thank you again for your time and help. That is one thing that I didn't know. I just assumed that you could format it either way. Funny thing is that the old phone is the one that will probably do both. Not the new cheap TCL tab 8. Got this for free when I got a new line. Lol, that's saying a lot about you get what you pay for.

Ok, I just finished with a 64 gig PNY Elite SD card. It's also a pretty good card to begin with. It has all the same qualifications as the other 128 gig SanDisk Image mate Pro, with the exception of this card is an A2 as opposed to an A1 with the elite. But like you said, it must be the cheap TCL tab 8 tablet. You know that is funny, because my Pie 9 is cheap too. So I don't know how they make executive decisions but to me you should always have a choice of... Well I guess that is why we can get I-phones instead. Lol.

They make an OTG adapter. I used that and plugged a 2yertabyte flash drive into it. My tablet recognizes it as and extra drive. Since it plugs into the charging port I can plug it in anytime I want to use it.

I did a comparison on sd cards on here. The SanDisk ultra sd card is the way to go. Out of the three I compared it worked perfectly

I think it's just a limitation of the TCL tablet that doesn't allow for Adoptable Storage. Like I said before, most devices don't support it any more -- it was really only intended for budget devices that came with very little storage, because it's an unreliable solution at best. It can lead to poor performance, since SD card read/write speeds are always going to be slower than onboard storage, and if/when the card fails, that can crash the system.
