My phone has a Mediatek CPU. Should i prefer fastboot or SP flash tools to flash TWRP recovery ?

Assuming that you can find a TWRP img file and zip file for your phone (TWRP isn't "an Android app", there are different versions for each phone), I personally prefer fastboot (if you can unlock the bootloader). Just boot the img file, which puts you in TWRP, then use TWRP to flash the zip file.

If you can't unlock the bootloader, you'll have to use SP flash tools - if they can flash a recovery.

And, if you can't find a version of TWRP for that particular phone, you can't install TWRP at all.

It's not the CPU, it's the way the manufacturer set the firmware up.
