Android Central Question

How do I get my wireless charging to continue while I'm sending digital audio out through the USB-C port?

I've seen conflicting information on this forum, ranging from "you can never wireless charge while plugged in" to "I can; here are photos" to "Android charges from whichever method is faster." But in my case, there's no power being offered through the USB, and the wireless charging stops anyway.

In principle I see no reason this shouldn't work. I'm guessing some software thinks it's saving my phone from some non-existent threat by preventing the wireless charger from working while there's anything in the USB port. Is there maybe some dev setting or an app I can get/write to override this?

Btw, this is an LG V30 (AT&T) running Android 8.0.0, hooked up to a DAC.

What setting did you choose for the USB? Data? Power?

Thanks for the response.

When I plug this DAC in, "USB options" in the taskbar dropdown is automatically set to "Power supply [SUB]Charge the connected device[/SUB]". There are other options available, but clicking them just disconnects the DAC which then automatically reconnects using "Power supply". I've also tried all the options in Developer Settings / USB Configuration prior to connecting to the DAC, and none of it changes this behavior.

This kind of makes sense – some DACs have no source of power and need to be powered by the source. But this DAC does have power, as do many others. (This one's a car head unit; I'm pretty confident the phone is not actually powering anything.)

So it seems a reasonable guess that this odd behavior is what's preventing the wireless charging, so if anybody knows how to:
  • get the V30 to send digital audio to the DAC without convincing itself it's powering it, and/or
  • get the V30 to wirelessly charge even while (it thinks) it's charging a peripheral,
I'd be very appreciative.

In case it's relevant, the DAC is a Sony RSX-GS9.
